Getting started and answers

Everything you need to make your first flipbook, brand it, add interaction and share it. Most questions are answered on this page.

Quick start

  1. Open the dashboard and click New flipbook.
  2. Choose a PDF. You can select several at once to convert them in a batch.
  3. Wait for the progress bar. Keep the tab open while it works.
  4. Set your colours and logo in Design mode.
  5. Click Finish to publish, then copy the link or the embed code.
Keep the tab open. Conversion runs in your browser, not on the server. That is what lets this work on ordinary hosting, but it does mean the tab has to stay open until the progress bar finishes. If the page reloads, the upload resumes where it stopped.

Uploading a PDF

Files are sent in 5MB slices, so a large PDF will not be rejected by the server upload limit. Your plan sets the maximum page count and total storage, and both are checked before conversion starts — you will never be told a book is over the limit after waiting for it to convert.

If a PDF will not convert

  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be read. Remove the password and upload again.
  • Very large files are slow on an older laptop. Try a desktop browser, or split the file.
  • If a page looks different from Acrobat, the PDF probably uses fonts that were not embedded. Re-export it with fonts embedded.

Design mode

Design mode controls how the book looks and behaves before anyone opens it.

  • Page effect — book, magazine, soft paper, slide or fade.
  • Background — a solid colour, a two-colour gradient or your own image.
  • Controls — show or hide each reader button individually.
  • Background audio — music or a voice track that plays across the whole book.
  • Password and scheduling — protect a book, or set it to go live and expire on a date.

Once a look is right, click Save as brand preset. Any future book takes that whole look in one click.

Edit mode

Edit mode is where you place things on the page. Click a tool on the left, and the element appears in the middle of the page ready to be dragged into position.

Element types

Hotspot link, jump to page, button, image, pop-up image, image gallery, video, audio, animated GIF, text, shape, sticker, form, quiz, web embed and custom code.

Positioning

Drag to move, pull a corner to resize, and hold Shift while resizing to keep the shape. The right panel has exact X, Y, W and H boxes with an aspect ratio lock. Positions are stored as a percentage of the page, so an element stays exactly where you put it at every screen size and zoom level.

Draft, Finish and Discard

Everything you change is held as a draft. Finish publishes it to the live book. Discard throws the draft away and returns to the last published version. A reader never sees a page you are halfway through.

Record mode

Record a short voice note for the page you are on. It plays automatically when a reader turns to that page. Your browser will ask for microphone permission the first time.

Lead capture

Turn on the lead gate in Design mode and pick the page it locks at. Readers see your headline, text and fields, and the book unlocks once they submit.

  • Leads appear under Leads in the top navigation, and export to CSV.
  • Add a webhook URL to push each lead into your autoresponder or CRM.
  • You get one email a day per flipbook the first time someone opens it.
  • The gate uses browser storage, not cookies, so it works inside an iframe on another domain.

Sharing and embedding

Click Share in the editor for every option at once:

  • A public link you can send anywhere.
  • A responsive iframe embed for any website.
  • A WordPress shortcode for pages on this site. [flipbook id="1"]
  • A QR code for print.
  • An offline HTML bundle you can host yourself.

To show all of your published books on one page, use the bookshelf shortcode: [flipbook_shelf]

Reading your stats

The Stats page shows views, unique readers, average time per page and link clicks, broken down by country and device.

The chart worth watching is "Where readers stop". A steep fall at one page usually means the content on that page is the problem, not the book. Numbers from today appear live; everything older is rolled up overnight.

AI tools

Click AI in the editor to run any of these against the text in your document:

  • SEO pack — a title, meta description and keywords, written into the SEO fields for you.
  • Summary — one paragraph describing the whole document.
  • Alt text — accessibility text for each page.
  • Suggest hotspots — where a call to action would earn its place.

Readers also get a chat panel that answers questions using only your document. Each job uses one AI credit, and your plan sets how many you get a month. Agency users can add their own API key in Account, which removes the limit entirely.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need special hosting?

No. Ordinary shared or VPS WordPress hosting runs this. The heavy conversion work happens in the visitor's browser, so there is no Ghostscript, no ImageMagick PDF delegate and no shell access to configure.

How big a PDF can I upload?

Your plan sets the page limit and the site sets a maximum file size, both shown on the Account page. The file is uploaded in slices, so the usual server upload limit does not apply. A 300-page book will convert, it is just slow on a weak machine.

Can I replace the PDF without losing my hotspots?

Yes. Replace PDF keeps the book, its link and its elements, and swaps the page images underneath. Check the pages afterwards if the new file has a different page order.

Will my flipbook show up in Google?

Yes. Google cannot read the page images, so the text of every page is also output as a hidden block along with structured data, a canonical link and social preview tags. You can turn indexing off per book.

Can readers download the original PDF?

Only if you allow it. Download and print are both off by default and can be switched on per book.

Is my content fully protected?

Password protection, hidden download buttons and expiring links all work, but a determined person can still pull page images out of their browser. Every flipbook product on the market shares this limit, so it is worth knowing rather than being surprised by it.

Why does my flipbook look different from Acrobat?

Almost always non-embedded fonts. Re-export the PDF with fonts embedded and convert again. Some Illustrator exports and complex Indic or Arabic typesetting can also differ.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. The reader collapses a two-page spread to a single page in portrait, supports swipe and pinch, and only keeps a few pages in memory at a time so long books do not crash mobile Safari.
